CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

ClassDojo is one of the classroom management tools I will be using to help develop your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement. Parents who sign-up using the unique parent code provided will be able to access information on their student’s classroom performance throughout the week. Users will also receive an email with a “behavior and skills” report every Friday. A letter will go home later on this week with more information and ways to sign up.

4th GRADE HOMEWORK POLICY:

Homework serves as a significant extension or reinforcement of what your child has learned within the classroom. Students will be reminded to take note of each homework assignment within their agendas. I ask for your assistance in helping your child learn the importance of completing and returning homework assignments on time.

Each student has a green take-home folder for returning completed homework.  All assignments are expected to be turned in the following day by 9:30am, unless otherwise indicated by the teacher.  An incomplete assignment is one that is not fully complete on the date it is due. An incomplete assignment may be turned in one day after it is due with 10 percentage points taken off of the grade. If not completed one day after its due date, the work can be accepted the second day after it is due with an additional 10 percentage points taken off the grade, for 20 percent total reduction. If an incomplete assignment is not turned in the third day after it is due, a grade of zero will be entered into the grade book and the work will not be accepted.

The late assignment will be stamped with a red late stamp and a general notification via e-mail will be sent home to the parents for the first half of the school year. Parents can expect to be contacted if a pattern of late or incomplete work emerges to discuss strategies to improve the homework turn-in rate.

Homework and spelling words for each week will be posted on my web page and updated daily.

HOMEWORK CLUB

Each month students will be recognized and rewarded for turning all of their homework in on time. Every student begins the 1st of every month in the Homework Club. If they do not complete an assignment on time they are removed from the Homework Club and do not receive the reward that month.

GREEN HOMEWORK FOLDER

A homework folder will come home every night. I encourage you to check this nightly. There will sometimes be time sensitive forms that require a parent signature.

YELLOW FRIDAY FOLDERS

All graded papers and handouts that are passed out during the week that are not time sensitive will be sent home on Fridays in a yellow folder. A parent/guardian signature will be required in the log located in the folder verifying that you have seen your child’s graded papers and any informational handouts this week! Please review each of these assignments carefully and sign the attached form on the correct week. This is your way to assess your child’s progress, along with TigerView. Folders should be returned on the following Monday. If folders are not returned on the following Monday it counts as a late assignment.

CORRECT & RETURNS

Graded assignments will be sent home every Friday. Your child will have three opportunities per quarter to correct and return work that does not meet their expectations. The assignment must be redone and returned on Monday, or the following school day, or they will not be accepted. The average of the two grades will be recorded.
